What are the similarities and differences between the GMAT and GRE?

The two-hour GMAT consists of three sections – Analytical Writing (two essays), Quantitative Reasoning (two-hour test), and Verbal Reasoning (80 multiple-choice questions). The GRE, by contrast, is primarily designed for business schools, and thus requires a higher level of quantitative reasoning. The difference between the two exams lies in the nature of their questions.

The GRE has a slightly more difficult Verbal section, with a higher level of vocabulary and more complex reading passages. Both exams are considered to be equally difficult in their math sections, though the GMAT’s quantitative section is slightly harder. The GRE has two sections devoted to math, with the quantitative section containing several multiple-choice questions.

The GRE has a 20-question research section. Each question will test your ability to filter out information, and you must know how to construct sentences to answer them. Unlike the GMAT, however, you may have difficulty answering questions that are not in standard order. This may make the GRE’s format more comfortable for some test takers.

The GRE has a new section that mimics case studies in business school. However, many B-schools only consider the GRE, which means you could end up settling for a school you don’t like or wasting a lot of time on prep. On the other hand, the GRE allows you to send multiple scores. Many programs will only look at the highest score, and this can help you decide which one is best for you.

The vast majority of business school applicants prefer the GMAT over the GRE. Despite the differences between the two exams, both tests are accepted for admission. While the GRE is accepted by fewer business schools, A GMAT is more widely accepted in many MBA programs. Choosing the GMAT will help you showcase your strengths and show you’re serious about business school.

If you want to go to law school or business school, you are going to need to take the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT). Both tests measure the same skills, but those who are applying to graduate school and have more expertise in their field may choose taking the GMAT. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is also utilised for admission to graduate schools, but it is not the best option for everyone. Nevertheless, there are a number of significant differences between the GMAT vs GRE, which it is your responsibility to identify for yourself.

If you’ve already got some experience under your belt in the industry, MBA institutions are willing to go past your GRE scores and consider your application. However, before you can apply to most MBA programmes, you need to have previous professional experience. If you are unsure of which test to take, you can determine whether you are qualified for the programme by taking a GRE practise test.

The GMAT costs $250 while the GRE costs $205, and you can send as many scores as you like. Depending on how many tests you plan to take, it may be worth paying the extra money for the GMAT.
